We've all been plagued by it at some point: procrastination. No matter how determined you are as an individual, everyone gets lazy here and there - it's human nature. Luckily, I have compiled this list of ways to shake your procrastination habits once and for all.
1. Make to-do lists.
Making a to-do list at the beginning of the month, week, or even day can help you realize all the things you actually have to get done. When you write it down, it allows you to prioritize and manage your time and tasks. Also, checking daily duties off the list is super satisfying.
2. Hang a calendar in your room.
The day I hung a calendar right by my bed that I can never avoid looking at was the last day I never acted like I didn't have anything to do. It's harder to ignore responsibilities when they're on the wall and in your face. It can be easy to forget that things are due if you're only keeping a mental note of them, so make sure to utilize the calendar and update it often.
3. Reward yourself.
If going to get some ice cream after completing a few tasks or allowing yourself to watch an episode of your favorite show between duties helps you get things done - more power to you. Little incentives can be very motivating. However, I like to get everything done before I reward myself, because I know I won't want to go back to work if I take a break too early.
4. Break things down.
If you have a huge list of things to do, break them down. Instead of waiting until the last minute to get everything done, prioritize a few things each day leading up to the end of the week. Use your calendar to mark down what you want to get done each day, and it'll seem a lot more manageable. I'm sure that crazy list of stuff isn't too bad after all.
5. Let a little tear out.
Stress is one of the hardest things to deal with, and bottling your emotions won't help you become more productive. Just let a little tear out and get back to work. Sometimes we need a quick sob break to keep on going.
6. Get the hardest tasks out of the way.
Leaving the worst assignments or responsibilities for last is the perfect recipe for procrastination. If you're really dreading something, do it first. After you've conquered it, everything else will seem easy and you'll probably get things done way faster.
6. Leave your house.
Going somewhere away from the comfort of your bedroom will put you in a more productive mindset and help you avoid the temptation of watching TV. Head to the nearest coffee shop or cafe and don't leave until you have completed what you need to for the day.
Procrastination can be conquered. By taking initiative and the right steps to stay organized, you will be able to finally cure your chronic procrastination.
