It's a safe assumption to say that our Millennial generation can have a pretty negative outlook on life, school, work and pretty much anything made of matter. I have been susceptible to this gloomy perspective at times as well. Life can get be pretty mundane sometimes. But the power to change this lies within us. Kinda like that quote we've all heard a hand full of time, "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder."
The funny thing is though, it's true. All it takes is a fresh perspective, that's not weighted down by negativity, to see life differently. We have the most resources and technology than any other generation has had as they enter adulthood. Infinite amounts of books and texts are within a click away, rather than searching rows after rows at libraries like our parents did in college. Communication is virtually limitless, with the evolution of cell phones and video chatting.
Instead of having pity-parties for ourselves over daily dilemmas—like when your Netflix buffers slowly or your professors take a long time to update your grades online—take a minute to rewind and think. Think about how lucky we are to even have a streaming service for hundreds of television shows. Heck, I'm just glad to have DVR so I can blow through commercials. Sometimes we get wrapped up in this crazy world and forget how fortunate we really are. Changing your perspective and focusing on the goodness that we are given on a daily basis will help change that looming negativity.
The glass is half full. Actually, it's more than that!
"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over." (Psalm 23:5)
In this life, we have so much to be thankful for. So much to be positive about. There will always be challenges, struggles, enemies and sorrows. But it's the abundant grace and goodness of our Father that surpasses all the negativity. God doesn't promise that there won't be enemies or bad days, but he promises that he will be there in the midst of trials, enabling good to come out of it. The next verse in Psalms says this,
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." (Psalm 23:6)
As a believer, we can rest assure that no matter what life throws our way, mundane and all, we have been guaranteed a happy ending. A Father with a steadfast love for us, has promised a future that nobody can take away. It is our responsibility to make the most out of this short time on the Earth and bring rays of positivity to it.
