The Importance of Cultural Acceptance

Fear holds us back from accomplishing incredible things.

Almost every person deals with anxiety at some point during their lives. It’s incredibly difficult to overcome. Facing fears is not something humans easily accomplish. Fear is one of the most constricting emotions we feel. It keeps us from experiencing what life has to offer and holds us back from living life to the fullest. The potential we lose when we feel anxiety is unacceptable and change needs to happen. Although change can be worrisome as well, this change is for the better.

Anxiety can be created based on stereotypes. When today’s culture places different groups of people into certain molds, this can greatly change how we live our lives, especially if the molds are negative. Negative connotations against people change the way those people see themselves in public. Now, Muslims in America are under massive amounts of scrutiny.

Is it fair to blame an entire culture for what only a portion of that race has caused? Muslims fleeing from their home countries to find safety feel uncomfortable in what is meant to be the most accepting country in the world. They leave their homes, if they even have homes, with fear coursing through their veins. Even those of Muslim descent, born and raised in America, face scrutiny when it comes to this extreme stereotype.

It is guaranteed certain opportunities are taken from them due to their race. It is guaranteed there are people out there who refuse to do business with them and/or refuse to accept them. People of America take this stereotype and blow it out of proportion and shame every person within the Muslim culture. This has held them back from living their lives to the fullest.

The issue of security is understandable. However, every race has done some unspeakable things. Why is only one getting such harsh criticism? Any person you pass on the street, any person that is in a store, any person in any public place anywhere could be an awful person. But any person that you pass could be a harmless person as well. We cannot form judgements based on stereotypes.

Every person has the ability to be dangerous and we should treat all races the same when it comes to security.

Racial profiling is a serious issue. Humans are not on this earth to fight with each other about our beliefs. We need to stick together and work together to survive sustainably on this planet. If we continue with all the wars, all the racial profiling, and keeping people from living full lives, we will lose our sense of humanity. Humans should not fear other humans. If we are living our lives based on the fear of judgement from other people, how are we supposed to realize our true potential?

Fear holds us back from accomplishing incredible things. Although it will be almost impossible, we need to stop caring so strongly about other people’s beliefs and accept everyone for who they are. Otherwise, we risk destroying our entire species ourselves.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."
