Growing up on the Southside of Chicago, I was raised as a White Sox fan. Although I do not faithfully watch Major League Baseball, I still keep up with the games as they go on throughout the season. I have been to many games at U.S Cellular Field, and I have owned a jersey or two. Unfortunately, the White Sox haven't been doing well lately. The last time they won the World Series was in 2005, and the last time they made it to the post-season was 2008. However, there is one baseball team that the city of Chicago still has hope for.
On October 22, 2016, the Chicago Cubs won the last game in their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, with a score of 5-0. This means that the Cubs move on to play against the Indians at the World Series. After their victory at Wrigley Field, fireworks could be heard all around the city, and social media was buzzing with pictures of celebrations and posts about the Cubs moving on to the World Series. I believe that the Cubs have what it takes to win the World Series, however, I feel that their win will not come easy. This will make for a very interesting 7 games or maybe less.
As a White Sox fan, I can't help but wish they were the team competing in the World Series. Many people talk about White Sox fans jumping on the Cubs bandwagon and acting like they have been fans since the beginning. In my case, that is not true. Don't get me wrong, I am very happy that the Cubs have made it to the World Series, but at the end of the day I will always be a fan of the White Sox. I will be watching the World Series and rooting for the Cubs, in hopes that they can bring the trophy back home to Chicago. The city deserves a little recognition as well as hope that there may be more trophies to come.
I am a White Sox fan, and that won't change. However, in the spirit of baseball and pride for the city of Chicago, I have one thing to say, GO CUBS GO!
