1. Long Beach State has had many famous students attend the Beach. Not to name-drop or anything, but Steven Spielberg graduated from CSULB in 2002 with his B.A. in Film & Electronic Arts.

2. In addition to CSULB's contribution to the talent in Hollywood, The Beach has had many notable athletes that have gone on to make a name for themselves and their alma mater. Three-time Olympian gold metalist Misty May Treanor was a 49er. In addition, many MLB players got their start as a DirtBag, such as Jared Weaver, Evan Longoria, and Matt Duffy, to name a few.

3. California State University recently broke a graduation record in the 2014 Commencement! According to the Press Telegram, two out of three freshmen students graduated CSULB within a six-year period! #GoBeach

4. CSULB has a wide variety of clubs and organizations. Everyone can find something that interests them. We have over 300 student organizations that highlight 12 different categories, ranging from Greek life to cultural organizations. Whoever said CSULB was a commuter school must never have been to the Week of Welcome.

5. Ever heard of a little week every summer called 'Shark Week?' Well, one of the main contributors and startup of Shark Week is a biology professor by the name of Chris Lowe, at CSULB. I don't know about you, but Shark Week is one of my favorite weeks of the summer.

6. Speaking of Shark Week, CSULB is also one of the only colleges to have shark tanks on campus for research purposes. This program has been recognized globally for their contributions to the world of sharks.

7. The Walter Pyramid. The pyramid seats about 5,000 people, and stands at 18 stories high. We are the only college campus that has a pyramid. In addition, The Walter Pyramid is the third largest pyramid in the United States.

8. Did you know the founder of Kwanzaa is a professor of CSULB? Dr. Maulana Kernga, a professor of Africana Studies, created the first pan-African holiday, Kwanzaa.

9. According to "Time Magazine," CSULB is ranked nationally in the top 10 colleges in the United States, according to the White House's college ranking system. CSULB is one of the best colleges, and anyone would be lucky to attend.

10. In the most recent listing from "Diverse Issues in Higher Education," CSULB is ranked in the top 10 for conferring baccalaureate degrees to minority students. Sitting in the ninth spot, CSULB is pretty well-rounded, and very diverse, in all aspects.

11. The Greek system at CSULB is growing tremendously. In under 10 years, the Greek population at CSULB has grown from 2 percent to 8 percent. In addition to its growth, the Greeks have been creating a positive light for themselves. In the past three years, they have donated over $150,000 to Camp One Heartland, an organization dedicated to helping families and children with significant health challenges and social isolation. #BeGreek

12. Lastly, if you are a current student or an alumni of the magnificent school, celebrate! As of fall semester 2013, CSULB's acceptance rate was 35.2 percent. With a great school like Long Beach State, we should all be thankful and appreciate all the opportunities that CSULB has presented to us and all it's inhabitants.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
