"You are too emotional." "Crying will not get you anywhere." "Stop being such a girl." At one point or another, whether you are a girl or a guy, you have probably heard one of these before. People say these things in a negative tone, and it usually leaves you feeling very weak or you are not strong enough. The struggle you are going through you either feel there is no way to get through it or maybe you are making a bigger deal out of it than you should. It really makes you feel less than you are worth.
I have always been told I can be over compassionate or that I feel too much. So what? Yes, I do care. My heart aches for people's struggles, the harm that has been done to someone, and if I feel like I have not been a good friend towards someone. I may seem like I care too much, and for the longest time, I viewed that as a wrong thing. I had people tell me, "You need to try and balance your caring and staying distant from things that weigh on your heart too much. "People have it worse than you do." "You need to cheer up; nobody wants to be around someone that is sad."
I found telling people the truth about what is going on in my life can sometimes not be the best thing because for some reason, this world when we say "How are you doing?" we expect a, "I'm doing good thanks for asking" or something along those lines. Yet, when someone truly opens up to you about some hard things you are going through it's like this world shuts down. We don't know how to respond.
This is why when I hear "You are too compassionate," I just think yeah because my God was compassionate as well. The shortest verse in the bible is "Jesus wept." First, let's take a step back and look at how this being the shortest verse has more significance than you think. Our Almighty, Powerful, and Strong God he wept. We often think of crying as a "weakness" yet our God did it. He is by no means weak so why do we automatically associate crying with that? The power of this being the shortest verse just shows that there are no words to elaborate on or to dwell on just the fact that Our God wept. He did something that many of us do today either in the privacy of our car or home because doing it at work or in front of people is too embarrassing or frowned upon. We feel gullible to cry in front of others. Yet, God put it in the Bible for everyone to see. Jesus Christ was compassionate for us. He died for us. Now, I don't know about you but I have never died for someone and I have a lot of compassion in my heart so just think of the compassion He has for us.
I encourage you this week listen to your friends. Slow down. I think that is something that this world just tells us not to do. It is one thing after another. Take the time. We are here for each other in the struggles and the good times. Cry. It is OK to cry! I am telling you and more importantly our Father says it is OK to cry! We are supposed to strive to be like Him in every way possible. If you see someone crying go sit with them. You don't know the power of just listening to someone how it can help so much. Never stop loving, and never think you are weak for being too caring or crying. You are a Child of the one true King.
