Cross Oceans For People

You were given the ability to love so you could give that love to other people, to all people, at all costs.

Almost everyone has heard the saying, “Don’t cross oceans for people who wouldn’t cross a puddle for you.” I’m here to tell you why this is crap.

Do cross oceans for people.

There are 100 years in this life, 365 days in one year, 24 hours in each day, 60 minutes in one hour, and 60 seconds in every minute. It takes just one seemingly small, average second to have a single drop of bitterness steal away who you are and everything that you stand for. Soon, that one second turns into hours, days, years - and before you know it this is your life, that was your life.

When I was little, my grandma would ask me what I thought I wanted to be in my next life. I’ve always loved butterflies because of their eye-catching colors and how easy it was to become attracted to the grace in the way they flew, so I thought maybe I would like to be one of them. The thought of having a second chance to undo all of my mistakes has always felt very reassuring to me. But, I truly don’t know if reincarnation really exists or if it is just a coping mechanism to forgive ourselves by saying, “I will be better next time.”

I do not want to abuse my abilities or lose my opportunities to love people just because I think that I can do it better the next time around. Because what if this life is the only one that we have? What if this is the only chance that we get? Please, do not gamble your life away due to the uncertainty of “next time.” Live this time, love this time.

Do not let the bad things that others do to you make you feel small, less important, or that the things you do don’t matter. Because you matter and what you give to other people matters. You can disagree with the things that a person does but still love them as a person, and you have every right to protect yourself from the way some people treat you, but don’t let that change the way that you treat them. You were given the ability to love so you could give that love to other people, to all people, at all costs.

This world is filled with too much hate for you not to share all of the love that you have inside of you. Love everything - every flower, every storm, every person you meet, and everything that you see from the moment the sun rises until it sets again. The world is under attack with the amount of mistreatment that goes on inside of it. It is desperate and hurting, and it needs somebody like you. So please,

cross oceans for people.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
