Cringe culture is a new trend of cyber bullying | The Odyssey Online
Start writing a post

Cringe culture, as defined by the Urban Dictionary, is “The culture started on the Internet of making fun of people and/or insulting them by calling them "cringy" or "cringe" for doing something which doesn't harm or somehow insult anyone nor anything."

Usually the "cringey" behavior is just people, usually teenagers and preteens, being public about the passion they have for their interests. So a few targets of cringe culture include k-pop fans, my little pony fans, people who use Tik Tok, etc. If you type in cringe in the Youtube search bar, hundreds of videos of cringe compilations come up and the video is all about putting the “cringey" person down, which bleeds over into the comments section. On other social media sites such as Twitter and Instagram, there's no need to search, the hate is right there in the retweets and comments. There are even whole threads on Reddit making fun of those deemed as cringey.

This is just a new wave of cyber bully and honestly, it is tiring to see. It's just kids having fun with that they enjoy. These bullies are acting as they've never been wildly passionate about a tv show or movie before. For example, I use to be very interested in Adventure Time so when I was in middle school, I use to draw and write fanfiction about the show then post it on the internet. Most kids who grew up with the internet have probably done something similar.

Life is too short. Be loud and obnoxious about whatever you're into. Draw about it. Sing about it. Design and make costumes about it. Dedicate a whole blog to it. Make embarrassing posts that you'll laugh at years from now. Make a YouTube channel talking about it. Buy all of the merchandise you see. Life is too short and it's filled with infinite sources of happiness, don't let anyone try to ruin what makes you happy.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

Great Value Colleges

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.
