Tis the season to catch some serial killers! That's right. Criminal Minds, one of my favorite TV shows of all time, had their season 12 premiere this past Wednesday and I have so many emotions about it. I'm happy to see my favorite team back in action, but it's also bittersweet because it will be one of the last times we see the one and only Aaron Hotchner or "Hotch" for short.
This is because over the summer, Thomas Gibson, the actor who plays Hotch allegedly got into an altercation with one of the show writers and was eventually fired from the show. This means leader of the BAU is on his way out the door which is heartbreaking to me. I know that Gibson shouldn't have done whatever he did to the writer and that it was out of line and unprofessional, but my heart breaks for the character on the show. Hotch has been a part of Criminal Minds since the very beginning and I simply can't imagine how him not being on the show is going to change the dynamic.
After Shemar Moore, the actor who played Derek Morgan, left the show at the end of last season I was equally heartbroken! Both Hotch and Morgan have come so far, lost so much, and have given 110% to everything the BAU does. Seeing them leave is hard.
I've seen every single episode of Criminal Minds. Every last one. I can honestly say that this show has some of the most well developed characters in TV history. Each of the agents have had their own struggles that they have dealt with and moved past. These characters don't fit neatly into the stereotypical archetypes you would imagine comes with a show like this. They are so much more dynamic that that.
Basically, Criminal Minds needs to stop breaking my heart for a season or two. I do wish Shemar and Thomas all the best in whatever they do and hopefully the new actors coming into the show will be able to fill those big shoes.
