Calling all criminal justice majors! At one point or another throughout our time in college, we probably have all related to these five aspects of our major:

1. Wanting to be in the FBI

Giphy

If you're a criminal justice major, at some point your dream was to probably go into the FBI, but once you actually started taking classes in college, you learned that this goal is difficult to reach and somewhat unrealistic.

Just because you watched all 14 seasons of "Criminal Minds" doesn't mean you're cut out for the FBI. (I'm also guilty of thinking I was).

2. Watching crime shows probably inspired you to pick your major

Giphy

Whether it be "Orange is the New Black," "CSI," or "Law and Order," watching crime dramas definitely played some part in peaking our interest in the subject.

Let's face it, we ALL wish we were Penelope Garcia from "Criminal Minds." And we think we're expert criminal profilers, too. Describe a crime and we'll tell you the age, race, gender, and type of un-sub to look for.

3. Having the Routine Activities Theory ingrained in your brain

Giphy

If I had a dollar for the amount of times we had to learn about this theory in every single criminal justice class we have taken, I could pay off my student loan debt.

Say it with me, kids! The Routine Activities Theory says that in order for a crime to occur, there must be a suitable target, motivated offender, and the lack of a capable guardian to prevent the crime from happening.

4. Dealing with people asking you, "Oh, so do you wanna be a cop or a lawyer?" when you tell them your major

Giphy

You know, there are more careers in the criminal justice field aside from police officers and lawyers. Like, so many. Not all of us wanna go to law school, and that's okay!

5. Genuinely being interested in your crime classes

Giphy

I don't think I've taken one criminal justice class that I haven't actually enjoyed. They're all so interesting and never boring. I mean, we are literally learning about crime, criminals, the prison system, re-entry, crime theories, and law. What's not to like?

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate.
