Turning a black canvas into a masterpiece.

When you're given a blank canvas what's to be done with it? A clean slate and an opportunity to make nothing into something. How do artists envision an end goal that they are unsure of? Whether it be a sculpture, paper that must be written, or a mess that needs to be cleaned up there is always a beginning. The beginning is tough but being undeterred and resilient allow creativity to flow from the mind.

The issue at hand is how to begin and what you might want the end goal to be. The most important thing to understand is that you don't actually know what your end will look like. The thing with creativity is you do not want to cap your opportunities. There has to be wiggle room for your idea to grow and evolve it into a better end goal. There is not a singular way to begin either. You begin by understanding that there is no limit to your end goal.

Uncertainty, the state of being uncertain. A simple word and an even simpler way for it to be defined. Creativity is stifled by uncertainty because we do not understand how to overcome it. We are uncertain if the way we begin is the right way and what we want our end goal to be is the right goal. Overcoming entails going for the goal and removing all doubt from your mind about failure.

Whenever I am faced with beginning an article I come to a blank slate I have to figure out ways to start. I begin by having an open mind about what I want to write and not being stringent on what my end goal looks like. This openness allows ideas to flow and mesh with one another. Creativity is about allowing ideas to flow and mesh with one another without being hindered.

When you're given a blank canvas what choice do you make? Panicking and worrying cloud your judgment leading to rash decisions. This clouded judgment and uncertainty have to be mentally overcome and conquered. Creativity is not about making all the right choices and having a step by step plan to the end. If you do have a step by step plan scrap it and allow yourself to let the ideas flow. Next time you step up to a blank canvas take a breath and clear your mind. The blank canvas is there for you to fill with all your thoughts and dreams unabated. Whatever your blank canvas is fill it up with your thoughts, all you have to do is begin.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
