How to reduce time and become less stressed on social media

5 Social Media Challenges for Millennials

As a millennial, we are all so wrapped up in social media. We’re worried about how we look compared to others, what the hottest celebrity is doing, how that Instagram model works out, what’s the latest fashion trend, what does that girl do to be so stylish…. You get it. The list goes ON AND ON AND ON. It’s really never ending, and there is a new fad every day. However, what we as millennials need to realize is that while there may be some positives LIKE THIS ARTICLE AND THE ODYSSEY that come out of social media and the capacity in which we use it…I believe that there’s more bad. In all reality, while we think we’re becoming some obscure, unique, individual, WE’RE JUST STEALING OTHER’S IDEAS AND CONFORMING TO THE WORLD.

1. GET OUTSIDE

I cannot stress to you enough how relaxing and mind easing nature is. It may be hard because it’s winter or you just might not have any time…but get off campus, out of the classroom, out of your room, out of bed, and take a walk. Or just go to a park and sit. Bring someone to talk to. Bring a devotional, bring a book. Think. Pray. Let your mind take a break.

2. FIND YOUR OWN PASSIONS

Find your own hobby, niche, style, etc. We, as millennials, are conforming to each other. Not only in the way we dress, eat, etc. but also in the way we think. We see the same things over and over and over again on social media, and then we start repeating each other. Often times, it stems from celebrities. How many girls do you know today that want to be Kylie Jenner? Funny, but true. How many have looked up the diet/ work out plan of an Instagram model? LOL, I’m only saying this stuff because myself included, know so many others who just want to be the same. What’s so special about that?

3. SPEND LESS THAN 2 HOURS PER DAY ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media is wasting time. How many of you avoid homework, work, working out, etc. by being on social media? Think about how much you could be doing with your life with the time you’ve spent on social media. How much you could be bettering yourself. Maybe check the Odyssey, (always check the odyssey), or check on your families back home, or your friends, etc. But don’t sit there and scroll for hours looking at people you don’t know, care about, etc.

4. DELETE/ LIMIT IT WITH SOMEONE ELSE

Have someone hold you accountable. From personal experience, deleting your social media, or staying off of it as much as possible, does wonders for relationships. Social media is an easy (not good) way to meet people, and sometimes relationships get bogged down by this. Having your significant other or just a close friend limit their time on social media might help keep you accountable.

5. SEE HOW MUCH MORE RELAXED YOU BECOME

I promise, this will pay off. You will start realizing how much of social media is pointless anyways, and how much you really don’t need it. Start relaxing!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
