On a rainy, gloomy day awhile back I sat in the campus Starbucks stressing over a list of seemingly endless tasks and assignment, looking at my planner only to see never-ending deadlines predicted for weeks on end. I was stressing, to say the least. As I worked, I couldn't help but notice the sheer joy on the faces of about five or six girls that I sat at the other end of my table. Their peace was undeniable, and I was drawn into their conversation; I kept working while I listened, and after a few minutes the group leader said to her girls, "Nothing you are doing is a monotonous task. It is all for a kingdom purpose."
Those words spoke right to my heart at that very moment. It was like God was saying, "Yeah it's frustrating and discouraging, but all this is not without an end result. My result."
Tears stung my eyes, and I immediately wrote down exactly what the girl said. A few minutes later the group ended, closed their Bibles, prayed, and everyone went their separate ways.
I don't know if anyone else in that small group meeting even remembers the conversation that day, but those words resonated with me and have been etched on my heart ever since that day.
God spoke to me that day in the middle of my mess in a crowded Starbucks through a group of girls that I don't even know, and it has given me encouragement on days that I couldn't find any. So I am here to bring you that the same encouragement today that I got so many months ago.
As the semester picks up pace, if you are not already at a point in the semester already; you are about to get there. The assignments may not always make sense; they may seem like they are never ending circles of information, going nowhere fast.
You might even be saying how completely pointless the assignment is that you are working on and that it is never going to help you with your desired career path.
Maybe it's your job. Maybe you hate going every day. It seems like nothing you do has a point that you are merely just filling a position. And maybe you are right. Maybe what you are doing right now has absolutely nothing to do with the career that you will one day invest your life in. But it is part of the plan to get you to where you are meant to be. It's kind of like when your GPS detours you to some never ending backroads on the way to your destination in a tropical paradise. It's part of the journey; it's part of the plan. It has a purpose, a kingdom purpose.
So before you hang your head in discouraged defeat and start swimming in a pool of self pity and lies. Stop and think about the destination. There are no monotonous tasks, everything is for a kingdom purpose! Remember who is this Captain of the this ship.
