So you've moved in to your dorm. Classes are finally started, and you are spending more time studying in your room than you originally thought. I, personally, am not very artistic. However, I really enjoy looking at art, and being surrounded by art. Here is a quick and simple solution for that totally drab dorm room wall: make it an art wall. How? Follow these super easy steps and your dorm room wall will go from "blah" to "oo-la-la!"
1. Pick a main piece

I am obsessed with Van Gogh's Starry Night painting. I am even more obsessed with this "real life" version that I got at a poster fair at school last year. I suggest that once you find a piece of artwork you love, find (or make) a poster of that work and make that your center or starting point.
2.Decide a theme

There are lots of ways to compliment that main work. Maybe have the color scheme persist throughout the rest of the wall, or do only the opposite color, so that the main one pops. The way that I go about it is to have variations on that main piece. I love the feel of starry night, so I adorn my wall with copies of the painting (like the Dr.Who version, or one my cousin made for me in Pre-School), I even put up some poems and song lyrics that remind me of it.
3. Search

Google is your friend. I just searched "Starry night" and got half of the variations I wanted to use. But if you know you want to something specific, than be more specific with your search.
4. Print

It helps to have a color printer, or maybe you want to color it yourself. There are lots of places on campus that give you access to color printers (like the PAC, the library, and some classrooms in Reilly)
5. Arrange

Now comes the fun part. After printing out the images, decide what you want the layout to be. Do you want it closer to the ceiling, or closer to the floor? Is it above your bed lengthwise, or vertically? All these are questions you have to decide on before taping up the images. Then you just hang the pictures and enjoy.
Have some fun with this project. Maybe you want to use some original artwork, or mix it up and add some poetry and/or song lyrics. Perhaps you want to add some photos of you and your friends. Whatever you decide, make it your own and have fun.
