Crazy Rich Asians Fun Facts

I visited Singapore for the first time earlier this year, and watching the trailer for Crazy Rich Asians made me miss that beautiful country, and in turn, was inspired to write this.

Without further ado... eight fast facts about the upcoming film Crazy Rich Asians and the novel it is based on.

  1. The trailer amassed over one million views in three days!
  2. The trailer was released on the Ellen DeGeneres show.
  3. It's the first Hollywood film to have an all-Asian cast in 25 years. Yes, you read that right. 25 years.
  4. Kevin Kwan, the author of Crazy Rich Asians, is no stranger to wealth; his great-grandfather was one of the founders of Singapore's oldest bank, the Oversea Chinese Banking Corporation.
  5. Crazy Rich Asians (the book) is part of a trilogy, meaning there could possibly be two more film adaptations to follow.
  6. After Kwan sent in his manuscript, his editor had trouble believing the extravagant things his characters would do, so Kwan sent her newspaper articles of such antics to prove he wasn't making things up.
  7. Director Jon M. Chu conducted an open casting call for people of Asian descent to star as extras - and posted the invite on Youtube!
  8. Many of the actors and actresses are actually Singaporean. Talk about representation!

But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
