In my last article, I discussed the overall benefits of having a side hustle and shine a little light on the rising transportation industry. In this article we’ll be focusing more exclusively on a particular site where part time gigs and odd jobs can be found and contribute to putting some extra dough in your wallet. The site I’m referring to is none other than Craigslist.
Having been around for over twenty years, Craigslist certainly has an established reputation as a classified advertisement site that offers everything from jobs to personals, and just about everything in between. When it comes to the type of jobs that can be found on this site, there are over 30 options to choose from. However, it’s no secret to anyone familiar with the site that a fair share of the ads posted in the job and gigs section (as well as every other section) are scams. Stay tuned for an article in the near future focusing on how to spot and avoid these scams.
Based on my own experiences of job searching on Craigslist the past couple of years, I will recommend sticking to the ‘General Labor’ category. The reason for this being is your much more likely to find legitimate opportunities keeping in my mind the fact that this is after all a local based website. Meaning that, people are much more likely to post listings for opportunities involving yard work or other hands on errands than they are to post (legitimate) government and television listings. Ultimately, if you're looking for a job in one of those aforementioned categories it's be pretty reasonable to assume that a local classifieds site wouldn’t be the best place to take your job search to begin with. Now don’t be mistaken, you could very well come acrossed a legit job or side gigs in another field besides general labor, but I just want to stress that anyone doing so should take caution and not get their hopes up.
Moving focus back towards general labor, as I said before there are definitely people looking for people to willing to help with hands on task. These people could be landlords or property owners who need an individual (or even a small group in some cases) to do any sort of yard work ranging from lawn mowing to move advance landscaping (which may likely require past experience). There may also be people who need help loading and unloading their moving truck, which if you’re someone who doesn’t mind heavy lifting could be an absolute cake walk to make extra money. The same can be said for mowing lawn too, and again the best part about these particular gigs are the fact that they don’t require much prior skill and unless you need to buy a new lawn mower, there’s pretty much no startup cost.
Overall, if you're someone who doesn't mind some heavy lifting and takes pride in doing a solid job, this may be the perfect opportunity to make some extra money on the weekends or after work during the week. In fact if you’re able to land enough clients, this work could even become a full time gig. If you’re on fence about giving Craigslist a try and need a little more convincing, check out this article on businessinsider.com that takes a look at an individual that made over $650 through Craigslist in one month.
