Crafts, Art, and Opinions

Art is typically defined by the viewer and crafts can be art, if that's what you believe.

We all get asked this at some point in an art class whether that be middle school, high school, or college. This question you may be wondering about is: What is art? Like seriously why do they keep asking us this question? Even the art majors aren't sure why they continue to ask it but we typically change our answer ever time, just to make them happy.

Seriously though. What IS art? The world may never know because everyone gives a different answer. Some see crafty things as art (the stuff you find on pinterest) while others don't see that as art (like some art teachers). No matter your answer you have your reasoning as to what is art to you whether that's because that is what you prefer to do and enjoy it or because you don't really craft but participate in fine arts.

For me art is mainly fine arts like sitting down in a studio and painting or drawing or sculpting because those are things that have no set steps required to do them unlike a craft. For some those set steps are what makes them able to do what they consider art. The wonderful thing about opinions is that we can agree to disagree but also have really good conversations from that.

I enjoy doing crafts because it is relaxing and fun but for me it's not art, it is creative though and the thought put into can be well meaning. Crafts are wonderful to do with others and small children because it's creating memories with others while being able to just sit and enjoy the company of others. So enjoy some crafts this season and next and make some wonderful memories because to you that may be art and to a small child they will be proud that they made something to give to an adult or friend of theirs.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
