If you live in Covington, hey neighbor. If you don't, welcome to our home town. Covington is just a little town off I-20. Everywhere you go, you will see someone you know. When community events happen in the square, you will see everyone you graduated high school with. It is one of those small towns that is big enough that you can live away from town, but if you need anything you will have to drive 15 minutes to get it. If you live in Covington, here are some things you can relate to.

1. There are multiple Mexican restaurants, but almost everyone goes to El Charro.

You either like the old one or the new one.

2. There are two Walmarts, the old one and the new one.

The new one has been around for a while, but it will always be the "new Walmart."

3. More than likely your hair salon is on the square, and when you go you get to catch up on all the town gossip.

Since everyone knows everyone, it really isn't gossiping. It's keeping up.

4. You take back roads everywhere you go.

There is only a lot of traffic of 278, but you know back roads to get to your destination so you only have to drive on 278 when you absolutely have to, like to get to Chick-fil-A.

5. It does not matter what restaurant you go to, you know the waiter.

Whether you went to school with them, or they are your mom's friend's son, you know 'em!

6. Your best friend from the local college may live in another county, but you can hit one back road and be there in no time.

My best friend lives two towns away, but it's only a 35 minute drive!

7. You see everyone at Walmart.

In high school, it was the place to hang out. Why? Because it was the most exciting place within ten miles.

8. Some people say we are the "Hollywood of the South".

"The Vampire Diaries" is the most popular thing being filmed here right now, but classic films like "The Dukes of Hazard" have been filmed here too.

9. High school football games get the whole town excited.

Football is where the heart is, and the heart of our town is in football. You can catch everyone at a football game, and it's a great gathering.

10. When community events happen, everyone comes out and it is like a big family reunion.

The 4th of July is a big event for Covington. We get a 30 minute firework show after dark, but you show up two hours early so you can walk around the square and socialize with everyone you haven't seen in a while!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
