On October 11, 2016 COVERGIRL announced their first ever COVERBOY, James Charles. He is a 17 year old self-taught makeup artist from New York. He has his own YouTube Channel that started in December 1, 2015, which in his biography he states that, "I love doing glam looks but I also have a huge passion for artsy, avant garde, abstract looks. Makeup is one of my biggest passions and I hope you choose to join me on my journey!"
While this is a controversial topic because he is obviously not a female, I think COVERGIRL should at least call him a COVERBOY and not a COVERGIRL. However, I absolutely love the support that males are getting in the beauty industry lately. A few years ago, males were looked down on for wearing makeup. COVERGIRL released James Charles as their newest spokes model via Instagram. He received positive and negative feedback. For the negative feedback COVERGIRL commented back via Instagram stating, "We support anyone and everyone who wants to express themselves with makeup. COVERGIRL believes in beauty for all, and we're proud to welcome James Charles to the family. We do not tolerate bullying on our Instagram." With COVERGIRL's comment, I think that the people going against James should take that and run with it. Makeup wipes off at the end of the day. Why does it matter if males wear makeup or are now campaigning for COVERGIRL?
James Charles is campaigning for COVERGIRL's newest mascara "So Lashy". If you visit the Official COVERGIRL website they state that this product is, "Bold sexy lashes for all lash types!
