For four months of the year, my Wednesday nights are spent in front of the TV watching "American Horror Story." When it finally comes to an end, I am beside myself for almost a month ... then I start looking forward to the next season.
After watching all five bizarre and twisted series, I have come to the conclusion that "Coven" is by far the best. "Asylum" is a close second, but it doesn't compare to the dark, taboo drama that is "Coven." These are the reasons that I think "Coven" is (and probably always will be) the best series of "American Horror Story."
The intro.
Every season, there is a new intro to the show. "Coven" is definitely my favorite because of all of the vintage footage they used — and it was super eerie.
The location.
Filmed in New Orleans, Louisiana, this season of "AHS" did a fantastic job of including the city's architecture and culture. The housewhere a majority of the show took place is known to New Orleanians as Buckner Mansion and is a 166-year-old three-story beast.
The outfits.
All black — like Fiona's soul. From the floppy hats to the black boots, this cast wins best dressed in my book. It was the perfect touch to make the characters even more fierce.
Misty Day
I think its safe to say that Misty Day touched the inner hippie in all of us. Her beautiful, care-free soul was just what the show needed to break the tension. From her fringe kimono to her eclectic spirit, Misty Day was hands down my favorite character.
All that sass.
Madison Montgomery may have not been the Supreme witch but she definitely was the b*tch! She was the sassiest character throughout the season (even when she was dead)! She was the queen of shade.
Guest appearance by Stevie Nicks.
Though some may criticize the fact that Stevie made an appearance in this season, I really enjoyed it! It broke up the routine and made it a little more fun. We also got to see Misty Day fangirl hard over her. I thought her voice and sound was perfect for the tone of the show.
Marie Laveau
Angela Bassett did an amazing job portraying the queen of voodoo, Marie Laveau. Marie Laveau was a real-life New Orleans local that practiced voodoo. Everyone from New Orleans has heard of her and knows that she is one of the spirits that still haunts New Orleans today.
Kyle- Evan Peters
Though I don't find him as attractive as most girls do, I will say there is something very fascinating about him and all of the characters he plays. He is extremely good at being a broken and lost character. In "Coven" especially, Evan does an incredible job of being a 'pieces-parts' science project whipped up by Madison. Though this character is not as bizarre as Lobster Claws from Circus, I still think this monster was just as demented mentally and emotionally.
Fiona and Cordelia's Love-hate relationship.
Throughout the show we got to see the roller-coaster that is Fiona and Cordelia's mother-daughter relationship. Luckily for us viewers, the conflict between these two fueled a vast majority of the show's drama and action. They each took numerous jabs at each other, but everyone was always on Team Cordelia. I know that me and my mom fight sometimes and on some occasions I would swear that she is really a witch, but I don't think I could have the guts to kill her ... just goes to show who the real supreme is.
Whether you enjoyed coven or not, it is safe to say that this series of AHS brought out the sassy, dark, fierce witch in all of us.
