Halloween is right around the corner! And guess what, so are all of the halloween parties. You've been a little too stressed out with homework, midterms, and the semester in general, and you forgot to plan your Halloween costume for the year (yes, you're in college and you still plan on dressing up for Halloween). Another roadblock: your bank account is riding on empty. Here's a few last minute, low budget costumes for you and your date to throw together for all of this year's Halloween parties!
Sun Drop Soda
Boys - First of all, after you purchase your your shirt here, you're almost done. Pair this shirt with some denim shorts, red socks, a thick red headband, and a red sweatband. This costume is easily executed, comfortable to dance in, and it can be done for under $20.
Girls - Your shirt can be purchased here. Pair your shirt with denim shorts, black tights, red leg-warmers, some red sneakers, and a red ribbon on your head. Again, this costume is super easy, super comfortable, and super cheap.
Hobos
This one doesn't entail gender differences. To be a hobo, just find some dirty clothes and beat up shoes. That's literally all you have to do. If you want to take it up a notch, tease your hair and use dark eye shadow and some eyebrow pencil to draw some facial hair on your face. As for your props, either find some cardboard and write something along the lines of "help me I'm poor" across it, or put an empty wine bottle in a brown bag and write "holy water" on it.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Boys - Wear a suit. Look as classy as possible. Once you've made yourself resemble Brad Pitt as closely as possible, grab a toy gun or two and be on your way.
Girls - Now's your chance to whip out that tight black dress that you've always been too scared to wear. To make this costume work, you have to pull off the classy but hot look that Angelina Jolie flaunts so easily (well, you have to try, at least). Strap a fake gun to a black garter on your leg peaking out of the slit in your dress. Once your outfit is all put together, put on your best shade of red lipstick and you're ready to go!
GI Joe and GI Jane
Boys - Think: camo. Camo pants, I mean. Wear camouflage pants and a black shirt, and be sure to put on some eye black. Optional: add a camo bandana or sweatband.
Girls - Feminize whatever your Joe is doing, or don't. You can make yourself as intimidating as you want for this, or you can just make it cute. You do you.
Forrest & Jenny
Boys - This one's easy. Find a plaid shirt from the back of your closet and tuck it in to some khaki pants. Pair with some tennis shoes and a ball cap and you're already done!
Girls - There's several stages of Jenny's life (and fashion), as any true Forrest Gump fans know. For this costume, you could either wear a letterman jacket and a matching skirt for college Jenny, a boho dress for hippie Jenny, or if you're feeling bold, you could even go commando and carry a guitar around all night. Maybe don't go with the last option, though, because you may end up getting arrested.
Deer & a Hunter
Boys: Here's another chance to wear camo. For this costume, you can wear as many camouflage things as you want.
Girls: Whether it's a dress, a skirt and a shirt, pants and a shirt, or leggings and a shirt, you'll need to wear brown. With whatever you choose, wear brown shoes and socks. As for hair and makeup, watch one of the thousands of tutorials like this one.
Cosmo & Wanda
Boys: Finding a white button down and black pants in your closet hopefully won't be too much of a challenge. Pair them with a black tie and some green hair paint or a neon green wig and you're almost done! Use yellow construction paper to make a crown and a wand, and there you go.
Girls: Find a yellow shirt from somewhere in your closet and pair it with black leggings (your favorite!). Next, either find a neon pink wig or spray color your hair pink. As for accessories, make your crown and wand like your date, and buy some sparkly wings from Amazon, Wal-Mart, or Claire's. Go ahead and buy your date's, too, because he won't want to be caught buying sparkly fairy wings.
Happy Halloween! May the odds (candy) be in your favor (trick-or-treat pumpkin).
