The other night, my best friend Hannah and I went to a Kenny Chesney concert and had one of the best nights.
We saw Kenny Chesney and Old Dominion in Raleigh, and even though it was just the two of us and we didn’t have a sip of alcohol in our systems, we still ended the night saying it was one of the greatest.
Country concerts are simple and fun, everyone is just in a good mood and wanting to enjoy some good music. One thing I love about country concerts is the age group. There is no “one type” of person that goes to a country concert; I saw kids, older people and teens all dancing their butts off. You see so many different types of outfits (I call the girls who dress in slutty country outfits the “pretenders” because you know they’re not really in it) and so many different kinds of people.
I had an older lady come up to me and yell, “I’m 67-years-old and drunk at a concert! Heck yeah!” I saw a mom dancing with her two kids under the age of 12. A couple slow dancing under the moonlight.
Even though there are so many different types of people, everyone is so laid back and just wants to have a good time. I’ve been to a few concerts where people are constantly pushing me, trying to get through and it just drives me crazy. At country concerts, sure, there're a few drunk obnoxious people, but you’re going to find that at any concert. The point is, everyone there is a fan of the same music as you and just wants to have a good night enjoying that.
Another thing I really love about country concerts is that you can sit or stand. I have a broken leg so I was worried about having to stand and dance the whole concert. My seats were on the lawn, and a lot of people had lawn chairs and blankets and sat for parts of the concert. When I needed to take a break off my feet, I didn’t feel like I was missing out of the concert. Besides, sitting down during a country song and waving your hands to the rhythm just feels right.
My friend and I got to the concert about an hour early (I had a bit of OCD on finding handicapped parking), and there were so many people tailgating and blasting country music. Hannah and I sat there, rolled our windows down and just enjoyed life for a little while.
It poured the entire time we were at the concert, but it didn’t stop us from having a great time. Everyone was dancing around in the rain, and I didn’t really care that my makeup was smudged and my hair was a mess. Hannah and I put our baseball hats on, sat on our trash bags (Fancy, right?) and listened to our favorite kind of music.
