"Oh, but you're from Missouri. That's the south." Not when you live by Iowa and used to live in Wisconsin.
Being a Yankee girl on a southern campus is quite the experience. Here in the south,
Sweet tea is everywhere, full of sugar, lots of sugar.
Pop is called "coke" even if it isn't Coca-Cola.
What looks like tater tots or chicken nuggets are NOT that. They are corn nuggets, it's a trap.
I also learned that gravy fries exist.
Cowboy boots are the norm.
Getting laughed at for having a northern accent is the norm.
"Bless your heart" is something I now hear 10 times day.
Getting used to ninety-degree weather every day was quite the challenge, especially in the fall.
The north and south are very different cultures, but it is a great experience to be in both.
Even though the north will always be better.
