As Paris is still dealing with the backlash of the recent terrorist attacks, the attention has shifted towards the focus of Global Warming. Paris is hosting an international United Nations hosted summit which features representatives and Heads of State from 195 countries. Some questioned if the event would continue after the tragic terrorist attacks on November 13th. With beefed up security, the summit has carried on and some participants even see the attacks as a motivation for the parties involved to come together in finding a solution to the climate crisis.
One main event has occured that has drastically shifted the attitude of the gathering. This occured when India unveiled their plan for a 120 country environmental alliance. “The dream of universal access to clean energy is becoming more real. This will be the foundation of the new economy of the new century,” stated India's prime minister Narendra Modi. India's first step is to establish the headquarters for the alliance in India. The goal is to raise 400 billion in which they have offered 30 billion to jumpstart the funding. The alliance has gained many backers including France since it's proposal.
Skepticism from many has risen including Israel who worry the countries will not be able to agree due to economic issues. Global Warming meetings have occurred in the past and failed but the general consensus around many of the countries present believe this meeting is different. With this year being the warmest recorded in recent history, this summit must be different as the environmental issue is more important now than ever.
