Every comic or geek convention has a population of dedicated costumers at its disposal. Whether they're turning themselves into anime characters or scale models of game bosses, the time and aptitude it takes to transform yourself on the outside can take quite the toll on the inside. These struggles and little triumphs are well known throughout the geek community. What better way is there to explain #CosplayProbs than with "Game of Thrones?"
1. The sense of wonder whenever you think of a new cosplay idea.
Because nothing is better than the spark of inspiration that starts it all. It can come from an online forum or taking a long walk on the beach. There's really no telling when or where it will come to you.
2. The looks your friends give you whenever you're about to take a risk with your half-finished costume.
Yeah, this could work out. Or it could destroy a few weeks worth of work. Is it really worth the risk? As a friend, I'm not sure I should help you do this to yourself.
3. The feeling you get when the risk you took goes horrifically wrong.
Well that answers that then. Now everything is on fire and nothing is OK. Don't worry though. It's nothing super glue and a seam ripper can't fix.
4. Having to cover up your tattoos to remain in character.
This is surprisingly difficult to do. You'll need enough concealer to camouflage a horse or a body sock, if you're willing to endure life in a body sock for 8-plus hours.
5. Supporting your fellow costumers whenever they're having a hard time.
I'm sorry your sewing machine broke and you ran out of hot glue. It's going to be OK. There, there.
6. Waking up on the day of the con and realizing your forgot to do buy, do, or make something.
It could be fake eyelashes or a pair of shoes, but either way it will lead to a frantic trip to the store in at least half of your costume.
7. Seeing everyone else cosplaying the same character so much better than you are.
You tried so hard and in the end it didn't even matter. Just kidding! Don't be too hard on yourself. Your costume is great.
8. Accepting that there will always be a better cosplayer than you are.
Who cares? You're wonderful as you are and you're here to have fun just like they are. Why not celebrate? You're both excellent just for being who you two are.
9. Showing up at the con ready to mingle.
When you give 110 percent, it's fun to sit back and enjoy your hard work. Sometimes being a bit overzealous can intimidate fellow con attendees though. Just celebrate inwardly.
Finally...
I'm attending a comic convention within the week so this is very real to me right now. My craft drawer is feeling very used lately and I'm practically pulling my hair out trying to get ready. Don't forget that going to cons primarily and most importantly is about having fun! Be yourself (or someone else!) and experience everything it has to offer.
