What It's Like To Be A Cosmo Girl

Benefits of working for Cosmopolitan are nicer than you think.

We've all heard of the big name brand magazines like Vogue, Cosmopolitan or Elle, but we don't understand fully what goes on behind the creations of the pages we read. The working day in the life of a Cosmopolitan editor is exciting, but fast paced. It's a cut throat industry, but one that I aspire to experience. In Cosmo, whether you're interning or have been editing for years, no two Monday's are going to be the same. I may not work there, but I have done my research and want to give you a bit of an insight to reality. So maybe you get to go out there in the world and get hands on footage for your next piece your working on or you could spend the day in the office looking for new hot stories for the magazines page. There is never a dull moment. You have to be on top of your game at all times and ready for whatever is thrown at you next. You have to go above and beyond to stand out. This isn't your average everyday office job. There could come a time when you are asked to fly across the states for a fashion show you need to attend or a piece you need to write about. You have to be able to go right then and there with no hesitations.

In college, it is best to have an understanding on how to write properly to earn the job in this field. People with Journalism, English or even some history in business earn high qualities with these degrees. This lifestyle isn't for everyone because yes, it is a lifestyle you have to take over. The Devil Wears Prada is a great representation of how harsh the fashion world can be. Miranda Priestly is definitely real and you can find that character in Joanna Coles, the editor in Chief of Cosmopolitan. She is known as "very intimidating" and not afraid to tell you the cold hard truth. The perks of working for a women's magazine, is that you can look forward to the extravagant holiday shindigs that take place. It's basically always a party, but for work so even better. Second plus is that you get to write articles that actually relate to you. Say you have a piece about relationship status or dating. You can use your past experience about that one awful date you went on where the guy proceeded to scream at the waiter and make a complete fool of himself. Yikes! That may be something you'd rather remove from your memories, but the world will find it comical and probably relateable. That's where a selling story comes from. My third personal favorite is the celebrities you get to work with. Chelsea Handler is practically a colleague of Cosmo she is there so often.

These are just a few perks you get to look forward to when you work for the world of Cosmo. So, slip on your high heels and prepare to change your life. Being a Cosmo star is like entering a new universe. You never know what you'll see next.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
