How I'm Handling the Coronavirus Scare

As someone with a compromised immune system, the news articles and updates about the coronavirus have been really scary. Here are the little changes I've made to make sure I'm protecting myself the best I can.

How I'm Handling the Coronavirus Scare

To clarify, I am not a medical expert and have no qualifications for what I am speaking about. This is just my opinion!

Hand Sanitizer Pros and Cons

Hand sanitizer will not protect you from the coronavirus because it protects you from bacteria and the coronavirus is not bacterial, it is a virus. What can help you is clorox or lysol wipes because they protect and cleanse viruses and bacteria!

Generally speaking though, hand sanitizer is definitely a good thing to use especially after touching door handles, elevator buttons, etc.

A measure I've taken since hearing about the coronavirus and specifically it spreading near my home, is using clorox wipes on my devices and hands regularly. I do not generally recommend using clorox wipes on your hands because the chemicals are terrible for you but in this instance I think it's okay.

Workload

As someone with a very heavy workload, I have definitely taken measures to limit my activity and my exposure to big groups of people, enclosed spaces and possible dirty or contaminated spaces.

I have started to walk to my internship in the city from Grand Central rather than taking the subway. This is about a mile walk each way so I'm not only limiting my exposure to enclosed spaces and big groups, but I am also making a change that is definitely better for my overall health!

Instead of taking workout classes, I've started to do more of my workouts at home or outdoors! I still am taking workout classes as I absolutely love them and rely on them, but I've limited my number of workout classes!

Lastly, I've stayed home when I can to limit my exposure to big groups and any possible contaminated spaces!

I don't think we are at the point where we need to stay home from school and work, but limiting our activities where we can is definitely helpful, I think!

Being Aware and Cautious

With all of the news updates, it can be really scary to go about your every day life without worrying about who or what could possibly contaminate you.

All we can do is just be aware and be cautious. I have been hyper focused on restraining any habits I have that could harm me. This includes mindlessly touching my face or mouth or not washing my hands or using hand sanitizer after touching any doorknobs or elevator buttons.

I've also been sure to really take care of myself to be the healthiest I can be. I'm taking all of my vitamins including vitamin C and a multivitamin, making sure I get enough rest, drinking plenty of fluids and making sure I am well nourished.

That being said, all we can do right now is be cautious and take care of ourselves! Stay healthy!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
