The spread of the Corona Virus has pushed many of us into tighter quarters then we would like. My city has been one of the first to suggest that residents stay inside 24/7, except to exercise or purchase groceries. Not all families will suffer from the loss of a loved one, job layoffs, economic destruction or cancelled events, but most people will have to combat the obstacle of spending extending periods of time inside. Without our daily routines and just the simple action of traveling to work or school, it is easy to go stir crazy. Instead of letting ourselves slip into despair and nonproductivity, it is important to establish new routines and keep up with our usual activities in a modified way to ensure that we all stay mentally and physically healthy.
Exercise will always be important and even with gyms closed there are easy to do home works that you can find online or on social media fitness pages. It is also important to get out of the house from time to time and enjoy the sunshine. To do this safely you can go on a run through your town as this will help limit contact between you and other people that may be outside. You can also create a schedule for yourself that helps you stay on task with all your work. Working or learning from home may seem easier, but without the enforcing practice of attending class or work, it is easy to fall behind.
We should all be thinking outside the box. This is the time to play the board games you haven't touched in years with your family members, or learn to cook a new meal. Get started on that book that you've been meaning to read. Your space may be small, and it may be challenging at times to live so closely with your family, so another essential thing to remember is that you are entitled to your alone time when you need it. Establishing these boundaries is key for your health. Most importantly, stay safe and healthy! Good luck.
