“To make a difference in the world for Jesus Christ.”
These are words that were put in our University mission,
But only here at Corban do some of us see our calling as no more than a vision.
Only here at Corban can you learn every day about the need for the Son,
And then go back to your room forgetting you are one.
This is Corban, your home away from home.
It’s home of the talented, passionate, and most of the things you own.
It’s also home to the lonely, the broken, the rejected,
And home to more hurt than you probably expected.
Some say that this is the home of exclusion and inequality
But there are over six countries represented on campus and that number is only growing with ferocity
This place, this school,
It’s home of students who are treated with priority
It’s also where those students turn around and complain about the majority of
Food services, facilities, and living spaces.
We students are proud that we know a lot about the Bible,
Sad to say we also neglect trying to be better disciples.
This is where students blood runs blue, gold, and white,
Where professors flip pancakes for students on finals nights
This is where walking alone is a weird thing,
and we show more excitement when we praise the smash king than the Real King
At Corban, we go to dinner when we are hungry for conversation and
only leave campus to go to the gas station.
This is where the soccer team is unbeatable,
where students come to learn but refuse to be teachable
Because at Corban, the vast majority of us forget what’s best
We remember ourselves
Remember we’re blessed
And forget the rest.
We keep comfortable and don’t put ourselves to the test,
and because of it we are more faithful to our white mochas than the offering at our church
meanwhile a spouse is the only thing we can say we search for.
But this is Corban, where you are loved
You are loved by your peers, even the ones YOU don’t love.
This is where students find it enjoyable to be an on campus resident,
and our RAs are more well-known than the ASB President
This is where a wall created to start conversations is used to stifle them
And we think chapel is only optional for selfish-Christian-pond-scum
This is where we forget that music isn’t the only form of worship
and we let our weakness get in the way of God making us invincible warships
This is home of future teachers, doctors and pastors,
It’s where the newspaper is ignored because the internet is faster.
This is where Tim Yee and Micah Herring become quality rappers
And we underappreciate our play’s actors
This is where our life has been completely remastered but
We choose to pick up the chains of sin and let the Devil be our captor
This is where students come to start a new chapter but I tell you to forget that saying
And give the pen back to the master so he can re-write your story and plaster
A new title across the front cover.
The beautiful, the ugly, the wrong, the right, it is all Corban, but I’m still proud of it.
Even though in the past we have cheated on our tests, got caught, and then continued to lie about it
But you have got to be thankful.
You have got to be thankful for being a Warrior.
Because many dream of being in this environment but never get to experience it
Never get to experience a professor that loves them without boarders
Here there is a Bible in every room and a wealth of knowledge around every corner.
We can talk about the Bible with anyone because we all have the same foundations
And we can easily be whoever God calls us to be but we make up our own limitations
So I say it’s time for the end of our comfort and the beginning of our adventure.
There is no more playing the time card. Either you’re dedicated, or you’re obligated
Either you are going to make a difference or you simply will not.
At Corban you can stare at the TV or you can get the courage to give God a shot
Because this place is CORBAN, a consecrated gift,
And you can choose to use it, but some of us just let it sit.
Is going to require some big decisions
God can use us today, tonight,
On campus, off campus,
With our friends or with strangers
Every day He calls US forward onto the raging sea
And He has the power to make us walk on water if we would just taste and see.
We can all graduate educated Christians, but making a difference in the world for Jesus Christ
