Sometimes it is caused by having too much work to do in a short amount of time. Sometimes it is caused by tough problems going on in your personal life. Other times it is caused by an unknown source, and no matter how badly you want to identify it, you just can’t. Regardless of what causes it, though, we’ve all had to cope with our fair share of stress. Some deal with it very well, but others can’t seem to function once they start getting overwhelmed.
For those of you that can’t function once you are under too much pressure, these tips are here to help you clear your head and lower your heartrate. Hopefully some of this advice will help reduce the amount of stress you’re feeling.
1. Listen to your favorite music
Have a pair of headphones in your pocket? Awesome. Pull them out and start listening to your favorite tunes. Music lets us forget about our troubles for as long as it is playing. It helps to listen music as you work or whenever you have the free time.
2. Talk to someone
Your friends and family are there to be your support system, so do not be afraid to give someone a call when you feel like you have too much on your plate. They can help you sort things else and make hard decisions. At the very least, they can hold your hand and tell you that everything is going to be okay. You are never truly alone and it is important to remind yourself of that fact.
3. Do not put too much pressure on yourself
I am sorry to be the one to inform you that you are not and will never be perfect. Nothing you do will ever be flawless, which is why you cannot put too much pressure on yourself. There is a difference between trying to work to the best of your ability and trying to be perfect. One is possible, the other is not.
4. Take a nap
Do not get in the habit of sleeping through all life’s problems, but if a nap is what you need once in a while, go to bed. When you wake up, you should feel rejuvenated and ready to tackle whatever is on your to-do list. It is important to have energy so you can stay motivated and focused throughout the day, and cross off everything on your to-do list so you avoid feeling like you are falling too far behind.
5. Deep breathing
We often get so caught up in stressful situations that we forget to take a breath. It may sound silly, but it is true. When you notice that you are feeling very anxious, pause to take a deep breath. Breathe in slowly so the air completely fills your lungs, and then let it out. It is the quickest and easiest way to calm yourself down.
6. Exercise
Get your heart rate up by going for a run or hitting the gym, not by having a panic attack in your bedroom. Exercising is a healthy way to release all the extra adrenaline built up inside you. Everyone feels better after a good workout!
