Copenhagen: A Place of Beauty

Copenhagen: A Place of Beauty
Savannah Flynn

Copenhagen, a place I would have never dreamed of visiting, in the matter of two short days became a place my heart fell in love with. The beauty of the people and city itself is overwhelming from the minute the plane sets down on its land.

Walking through the airport, I knew I was somewhere special. My group and I were clueless as to anything regarding Copenhagen and had no idea how to get on the train or even once we got on the train which area we should be going to. Each person we asked for help turned out to be generous with his or her time and incredibly helpful. Soon we were on our way to the Airbnb we had booked. Once in the general area of our Airbnb for the weekend, we found ourselves once again lost in a sleepy storybook town. Hungry and exhausted from our travels, we found the only place open, which was a pizza restaurant. Asking once again for help, the people told us they were in the middle of closing yet stayed open and made us three pizzas. Thankful for the directions and food, we journeyed down a neighborhood street looking for the old monastery Airbnb we were supposed to be staying in. Once again, we were helplessly lost. Wandering the streets looking for a single house number, it was almost midnight, and we were beginning to lose hope in ever finding the place; however, the kind people of Copenhagen did not disappoint us as one man walking his dog took the time to walk us to our resting place without even questioning us once. I could go on and on about the people of Copenhagen. They are beautiful both on the inside and out. The city is filled with people who share a spirit to help even strangers who clearly aren’t from their land fully enjoy the beauty of their home.

Even being filled with incredible citizens who make their country feels like home to strangers, Copenhagen doesn’t stop there in amazing its guests. The place is gorgeous. Our monastery was set in a picturesque landscape surrounded by fields filled with yellow flowers and forests that make any sojourner think they were lost in a fairytale. The old monastery was located in a suburb of Copenhagen, but the city itself did not disappoint. At each turn, I was awestruck by the beauty of the architecture and uniqueness of it. After walking over twenty miles in one day, we decided to bike around the city the next, which allowed us to discover so much more. I explored green meadows filled with old windmills and hidden ponds with swans, yet contrasting that, I saw a bustling city filled with shops and its culture bursting vibrantly at every corner. Musician played down the main drag, and people sat at tables enjoying passersby. The businesses located on the harbor are filled with colors each differing from the one next to it. The harbor itself is filled with boats both old and new that journey out to the open water. The coastal breeze and seagull screeches filled the air as we journeyed through my now favorite place in the world.

Copenhagen’s beauty is endless, and I think part of my heart will always be left behind wrapped in the culture of the amazing place I was lucky enough to have stumbled upon.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
