It's a Mod Life

As we approach finals week, that means we face the dread of finding a spot to study in Marquette's library. Relating to a scene of black Friday shoppers bursting through the door to grab their deals, Marquette students feel a similar way when trying to find a place to go study during finals week. Every one and their mother has a paper due, or a project assigned or an exam to study for. And everyone seems to be taking over your coveted table tucked away in the book case. Now is the perfect opportunity to head off campus. Grab your bus pass and head to the a coffee shop to get some studying done! Here are some amazing places to prepare to do your best on finals!

Prospect Avenue Cafe 2211 N Prospect Ave, Milwaukee, WI

Located in Milwaukee's East Side neighborhood, Colectivo's Prospect Avenue Cafe is a great place to spread out your books and crank out assignments. Not only to they have great food, and caffeinated drinks, this coffee shop offers a great atmosphere that can propel your studies forward!

Lakefront Cafe 1701 N Lincoln Memorial Dr, Milwaukee, WI

Milwaukee's historic River Flushing Station, Colectivo transformed this space into a coffee shop on Milwaukee's lakefront. This space overs cozy tables, and during the warmer months there's seating outside of the building.

Milwaukee Public Market 400 N Water St, Milwaukee, WI

Milwaukee Public Market, located in the Historic Third Ward, is a great place to go get some studying done as well as shop around for Milwaukee delicacies. Shops selling everything from cheese to cookies, and soup to wine, you can reward yourself with the great food sold in the Milwaukee Public Market.

Anodyne Coffee Shop 224 W Bruce St, Milwaukee, WI

Located in Milwaukee's Walker Point, Anodyne Coffee Shop offers a cozy spot to post up with a cup of coffee and get studying done. Known for their delicious roasts, you can easily get your caffeine fix and get your essay done at Anodyne!

Rochambo Coffee and Tea House 1317 E Brady Street, Milwaukee, WI

A funky hangout, located on Brady Street, Rochambo Coffee and Tea House offers a cozy spot for your study needs. This is a great spot to grab a cup of coffee and post up with a textbook and some flash cards.

Factory Cafe 422 N 5th St, Milwaukee, WI

Stone Creek Coffee's Factory Cafe located a few blocks away from campus is a great place to enjoy a great cup of coffee, and prepare for upcoming finals. With its wide open tables and amazing atmosphere, Factory Cafe is a perfect stop for your study needs!

Grand Avenue Mall 275 W Wisconsin Ave, Milwaukee, WI

The Grand Avenue Mall has great shops and a food court. You can grab one of the numerous tables set up, and get some studying done. There are even massage chairs available for you to use after a stressful study session.

Kickapoo Coffee 232 E Erie St, Milwaukee, WI

One of my favorite spots in Milwaukee, Kickapoo offers great vibes to get your studies done. Utilize one of their open tables and get to the books!

Wherever you end up studying, find some place where you are going to focus and prepare yourself well for upcoming final exams and papers. Use this stressful time to get off campus, and explore why having a school like Marquette in a city like Milwaukee is so special.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

3. People do not acknowledge your feelings because you "do not have any."

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.
