When I was moving out of my hometown last May, something amazing quietly moved in. In a land of lakes and year-round, outdoor Dairy Queen (ok, we changed to an indoor one, but still) a new competitor opened up shop. Cool Jacks handcrafted cookies and ice cream pulled up in their food truck and parked in Sylvan Lake Michigan to stay.
What makes Cool Jacks better than the Queen? Well, other than all their ice cream being hand-dip (which is easily better than soft serve!) they make their ice cream, cookies, brownies, and bars themselves! Who doesn't love homemade sweets? They even offer some gluten-free treats.
Their specialty is using those homemade bakery items to make ice cream sandwiches. When I went, I kept it simple with cookies and cream ice cream between two chocolate chip cookies, but you can mix and match to your hearts content with several flavors of cookies and ice cream to choose from. I didn't even have to take a bite to know I was going to love this place!
Sporting two other locations in Southfield Michigan and Boca Raton Florida, shelf-space in local grocery stores, a complete catering service with food truck or cart options, AND soon a manufacturing facility in Livonia, this is definitely a company worth watching.
Cool Jacks sometimes appears as Eskimo Jacks, but they are the same people doing the same thing; being great at making delicious ice cream treats.
