Tons of hip, young millennials are flocking to this "fast-casual" chain for its delicious, wholesome food and authentic, hip flair. Here are five facts that you may not know about the classic burrito hot spot.
1. Chipotle boils all of its burritos for that authentic New York taste
Ever wonder why Chipotle's burritos taste so darn good? It's because they boil them in hot water before they serve them to you. According to the experts at CHQ (that's "Chipotle Headquarters" for those not in the know) the boiled water works to bring out the natural flavors of the burrito after it heats up. This is why you might sometimes here people refer to them as "dirty water burritos". Chipotle really knows how to make it's food authentic!
2. All their food is sold at a loss
It may seem strange, but it's true. Chipotle doesn't even make any profit whatsoever from selling burritos, tacos, bowls, or anything else. So how do they make money? It's simple: from the extra charge for guacamole that you pay. "Guac accounts for 95% of our profits" admits the CEO of Chipotle, Robert Chipotles. "If it wasn't for that sweet, sweet, avocado paste, we'd really be in the hole". Well, as long as we can keep getting that great food, it's fine with us!
3. Every Chipotle customer has a limited supply of napkins
You probably didn't know this, but everyone who has ever bought food from Chipotle also has a limited supply of napkins allotted to them in their lifetime. The amount of napkins varies from person to person, but one thing is sure: you don't ever want to run out of napkins. In order to check how many napkins you have left, you can log into Chipotle's website. Now that's something to think about when you grab a couple extra napkins for your dorm.
4. You can get extra guacamole by ordering half green and half blue guacamole
Here's a little-known lifehack: you can actually get a little bit more guacamole on your burrito by ordering half green guacamole, and half blue guacamole. They'll end up giving you a small amount of extra guac on your order, with no added cost! Just don't tell too many people about it... ;)
5. The secret ingredient in Chipotle's salsa is bees
What burrito would be complete without salsa? Chipotle's salsa is some of the best in the biz, and it's all because of this secret ingredient: bees. In addition to the classic salsa ingredients, Chipotle adds a small amount of fresh ground bees into their salsa. Not many people would attempt something like this, but it's that commitment to innovation that puts Chipotle miles ahead of its competitors. Plus, it's totally delicious!
