I always love to take to a break from serious stuff and focus on cute animals. This time it is chipmunks mostly because my campus is full of them especially in the fall. Here are some things you probably didn't know about the adorable little animals.
1. There are 25 different species of chipmunks and most of those species are located in North America.
2. In the wild, our furry friends only live for 2 to 3 years.
3. Chipmunks are mostly antisocial with their fellow chipmunks except for when they want to mate.
4. Female chipmunks are pregnant for about 30 days before giving birth to a litter ranging in size from 2 to 8 babies.
5. One chipmunk can gather up to 165 nuts in one day. That's nuts! (Sorry, it couldn't be helped!).
6. The cheeks of chipmunks can stretch to 3 times the size of their heads.
7. Chipmunks are omnivores meaning that along with nuts and berries they also eat small animals like frogs and bird eggs.
8. Chipmunks have 5 toes on their front feet and 4 toes on their back feet.
Next time you see a chipmunk, remember that they are more than a cute face. Enjoy the chipmunk season!
