Success: It's something that everyone would agree that they want to obtain. It's the tagline that has floated across society for as long as anyone can remember. If you're successful then you're respectable to others. You can look back on your life choices and pat yourself on the back, because you've made it. But how do we know when we've accomplished success? Or IF we've accomplished it?
There's this preconceived notion that success comes in a generic cookie cutter form. That everyone is subjected to find the same form of success, and if your life doesn't fit the shape of the cookie, then you haven't succeeded in the right ways. Most would agree that the cookie cutter deals with the career part of life, but the idea that everyone's corporate life is the same is ridiculous.
There isn't an end-all-be-all definition of the word. Success comes in many different forms. Some people believe that their career paths define their success (like the cookie cutter), but others would say that family milestones are the rule of thumb. And yet others would argue that personal developments and strides define their accomplishments. The idea of success covers a wide spectrum of possibilities that's different for everyone and it doesn't always come when it's expected. It may even be anticlimactic.
Our society puts a lot of stock into finding success in every way possible, but don't let the world's definition of the word stop you from doing what you want to do. Sure, someone else's idea of making it may be finally landing their dream job or starting a family, but if your idea of success is finding a way to travel the world on a budget, moving to a new city, or even just making sure that you remember to feed your fish everyday, then GOOD FOR YOU. Pat yourself on the back, and don't let anyone else be the judge of your life accomplishments.
