I Cook (And You Can Too!)
Matthew Sporn

I’ve liked food for a long time (as my friends and family know too well…) but starting two years ago, I became interested in cooking it as well. Perhaps against better judgment I threw myself right into things, pretty much exploring and learning as I went. I made schawarma, fried chicken, shakshuka, creme brulee french toast, all sorts of things. What conclusion did I come to after my first bit of real cooking? It’s fun!

There’s are aspects to cooking that aren’t there when you reheat frozen food or pickup Wendy’s The combination of excitement and trepidation that goes with making a meal never seems to go away or lessen is degree, which makes you feel all the more proud when you finish triumphantly. Even prepping feels like you’re fulfilling a”Mission: Impossible” type task. There’s also an element of quality control that simply cannot come from 9processed foods. There’s no questioning the ingredients of your meal when each one is laying in front of you.

I’m not the only cook in the kitchen either. According to Pew Research, about a third of the public (34%) say they enjoy cooking “a great deal” and another quarter (26%) say they enjoy cooking “a fair amount.” These figures have essentially remained the same since 1989, but there has been a notable shift in their gender composition. Today about the same percentage of women (35%) and men (32%) say they enjoy cooking a great deal; in 1989, women (39%) were more likely than men (25%) to say this. The broader increase in cooking is in line with the public’s growing preference for fresh, more natural food over processed, fatty items. So give it a shot! It’s a great way to start eating healthier and really knowing what you’re putting in your body.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
