Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., 34, known professionally as Lil Wayne, came under fire last month after in an interview on Skip and Shannon: Undisputed when he stated that he had "never dealt with racism." Lil Wayne, who was weighing in on the Colin Kaepernick’s protest, was asked to elaborate on the state of race relations in America and what he has seen in his life responded by saying:
“Skip, they wouldn't want to ask me that. They wouldn't want my answer to represent it because God knows I have been nothing but blessed... I have never -- and never is a strong word -- I have never dealt with racism. And I am glad I didn't have to."
Daily Mail later released an interview with Lil Wayne where he described his feelings on the matter largely related to a white cop who saved his life when he was 12 years old.
Lil Wayne stated that he was lying on the floor after he accidentally shot himself when cops busted down the door. While people were scrambling over him to grab "guns and drugs," it took just one white cop to stop and save his life.
The police officer, Robert 'Uncle Bob' Hoobler, took Wayne personally to the hospital and then stayed with him until doctors assured him that Wayne would be ok.
Wayne went on to say,
"I'm blessed to have that opportunity, so with that said I can only be honest with such a thing, I have never witnessed racism."
