Contrary To Widely Accepted Belief, There Are Actually 8 Days In A Week

Seven days in a week? Sounds like the time we believed the Earth was flat.

"I cannot believe we did that."

"Don't worry about it. It doesn't count. It's extra day."

What many would call living on the edge, being spontaneous, or just fun, we call the 8th day. Extra day.

My roommate and I coined this term to justify any irrational behavior, especially in times of stress, when you really need to be on your A game but instead, you find yourself doing everything but what you are supposed to be doing.

Before college, I was extremely carefree and a somewhat irresponsible person. I was always looking for any excuse to randomly do something fun and social, which (in moderation) is not necessarily a bad way to be. But as soon as I moved away from home and school started, I became unable to focus on anything but my work. Anything longer than a few hours of not doing something productive was enough to make me seriously anxious, which was a completely new emotion for me.

The weekends typically don't count, that time is fair game. So what constitutes "extra day?" Going out on a weekday other than Thursday. Crying in public. Going to Starbucks three times (or more) in one day. Eating meat when you're trying to go vegetarian.

The only rule for extra day is that there can only be one. Eight days in the week is perfectly acceptable, but nine will completely throw off the order of the universe.

Take home message for anyone who experiences this type of anxiety: sometimes it is okay to be a little extra.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?

On a level of 1-10 with 1 being chill and 10 being stressed the flip out, you could say I'm a 9. Worrying about the future, grades, GPA, work, assignments, and a lack of sleep and food will do it to ya.

While it is normal to experience stress and nervousness, the thoughts that come along with it can bring up something else.
