When we praise we are declaring who God is. He is the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the one Who Is and Is to Come; by praising Him, we are declaring His identity.
The thing about praise and worship is that it's the literal act of losing yourself, but being found by the Holy Spirit. Have you ever been so entranced during worship that you completely forget everything, everyone and every thought that is surrounding you? It is just you and God in complete peace, satisfaction and joy.
Psalm 29: 2 says, " Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness" (NIV).
The word ascribe means to attribute or to give credit. I like that definition because that's what worship is; it is the children of God coming into communion with our Heavenly Father giving Him credit for the wonders He has done and will do.
God is holy, just, kind, jealous for our attention, righteous, not easily angered, abundant and love itself. When we declare that truth, there is no room for lies and fear.
1 John 4:18, "Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love" (NLT).
Even if you're going through a hard situation and the last thing you want to do is praise God, I challenge you to praise anyways. God is love itself and like the verse above says, perfect love expels all fear. Praising God does not suddenly vanish all of the problems, but through praise you're surrendering your trust to the almighty King and confirming that He has a plan.
Another incredible verse that declares praise is Psalm 145:3, "Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom" (NIV).
God is so good and worthy of our praise! When you seek Him, He will be found. When you praise the Lord, you are declaring the truth.
