It is very hard to live in 2018 as a single person and there is no doubt about that. We constantly have the media telling us that relationship life is the only way to true happiness. I have lived too much of my life believing this lie and drowning in my loneliness. I am hoping that bringing the truth to the light will set free those who struggle with their content in singleness.
Just because you are not with the person you believe you are supposed to be with does not mean that you are going to be forever alone. Believe in the hope that God has someone special for you, and if not, He is still enough.
When you finally get to a place where you are tired of the feeling of singleness, block out all of the things that remind you of it. Stop listening to Thomas Rhett's songs about his perfect life with Lauren. Stop reading those Nicholas Sparks books that inspire a fairytale ending to every love story. Stop watching the One Tree Hill episode where Nathan and Haley get married as juniors in high school. These are not bad things, but when these things start to make your reality seem hopeless, there lies the issue.
Philippians 4:11-13 "I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
There are so many couples in the bible and I am almost positive that they too struggled with feeling lonely at times:
Adam & Eve, Boaz & Ruth, Hosea & Gomer (wild story), and so many more.
The Old Testament talks a lot about husbands and wives, but notice how the New Testament rarely ever speaks of it unless it is giving instruction to those who are already married. The New Testament is all about Jesus and the journey He took with His disciples. I can not help to believe that if the disciples had been married with families, that Jesus' name would not have been spread across the world as it has.
God wants to hold the pen to your love story. If you allow Him to take over the reigns of your life, He will use your singleness for His glory, and what better life to live than one in the hands of our Creator? He has not forgotten what your heart longs for.
Psalm 37:4 "Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart."
