5 Reasons To Consider Going Greek

Whether you are an incoming freshman, a transfer student, or a senior, I encourage you to give Greek life a chance. You will hear so many great things about Greek life, while also hearing bad things. The truth is, it's not for everyone; some try it and hate it, some try it and it changes their lives. You have to decide for yourself if going Greek is something you want. I do encourage everyone to consider the great opportunities and give Greek life a chance. Because you never know, it could change your life. Maybe you will find your forever home. Here are five reasons that you should consider going Greek.

1. Creating friendships

One of the main reasons people go Greek is the opportunity to make friends. Sometimes it can be hard or nerve wrecking trying to make new friends. During recruitment festivities, you will make connections with other college students who are also considering joining Greek life. Even if you choose not to join a sorority, you will have made a couple of friends in the process. If you do end up pledging with a Greek organizations the amount of friendships you could make are endless. You will spend so much time together, you will grow and learn together, you will learn to open up to others, and to be there for your sisters or brothers. That sounds like the beginning of many beautiful friendships to me.

2. Giving back

All Greek organizations have a philanthropy or charity that they donate to and raise awareness for. The feeling of being a part of something bigger than yourself is truly humbling. You could be in an organization that comes up with fun events that dedicate time and hard work in order to raise money for a philanthropy. Philanthropy and giving back is another great reason to consider Greek life. Maybe one of the campus organizations supports a cause that is near and dear to your heart.

3. Leadership opportunities

Joining a sorority provides it's members with countless opportunities to enhance their leadership skills. There are business meetings, there are committee meetings, there are executive members, and other offices that represent your organization. All these things require good leadership skills, and what better way to enhance these skills than to practice them throughout an entire school year? Besides the possibility of leading your organization, there is networking opportunities through older members and alumni, as well as job opportunities. Being a part of a sorority can look wonderful on your resume.

4. Being involved on campus

Being involved in Greek life gives you a lot of insight about the fun stuff that happens on your college campus. Greeks often put on many events and because of the diversity in most Greek organizations there are members that are involved in other campus groups that put on all kinds of events. Many times organizations will show up together to campus/sporting events. This way you can experience all the greatness that your campus has to offer and you don't have to do it alone.

5. The lifetime supply of love and support.

The best reason to consider going Greek is the lifetime supply of love and support from your organization. Throughout college your sisters become like an extra family to you. They are your home away from home. They are the ones that keep you going when your thinking about giving up.They are your motivators, they are you friends. They are your sisters. The best part is it's not just four years, it's for life.

Above are just five of the countless reasons you should consider going Greek and finding your forever home. Take a chance on something and allow it to change your life in the best ways. You will never know until you try.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
