Fox News host Laura Ingraham has taken to Twitter to mock David Hogg, one of the vocal and politically engaged Parkland shooting survivors.
In her retweet of an article from the Daily Wire, she wrote, "David Hogg Rejected By Four Colleges To Which He Applied and whines about it. (Dinged by UCLA with a 4.1 GPA...totally predictable given acceptance rates.)" For some reason, Ingraham feels the need to not only shame him for having an above average GPA but to also mock him for being mildly upset about receiving a few college rejections.
Firstly, he may have gotten rejected from some UC schools, but he also got accepted to other good colleges as well. Secondly, this is a grown woman taking time out of her day to publicly make fun of a high school student. I
'm not sure when the conservative ideal of "family values" began encouraging bullying kids for the sake of guns, but that seems like a real low point. What's even sadder is that she's not alone in her sentiments.
Rick Santorum recently said on CNN, "How about kids instead of looking to someone else to solve their problem, do something about maybe taking CPR classes or trying to deal with situations that when there is a violent shooter that you can actually respond to that."
Beyond the terrible grammar, Santorum is essentially telling students to fend for themselves and administer CPR to gunshot victims, which will not do anything if someone is actually shot and bleeding out. Of course, after a chorus of outrage, Santorum backed away from his previous remarks, claiming that he misspoke.
Laura Ingraham also retracted her attack on David, but only after advertisers pulled their ads from her show. So I guess the lesson is, it's okay to attack high school shooting survivors for being mad at the NRA as long as you don't lose any money.
