This week’s collection installment will be discussing measures taken at home to be a more rational and conscious consumer. There are many methods that can be instilled at home to make purchases more useful and benefit the environment. These activities can be rationalized for the average student living on their own as well. These methods include:
1. Paying more attention to recyclable materials (not just cans and bottles)
2. Unplugging anything not being used at the moment
3. Energy efficient laundry detergent
4. Weekly cleaning routines
5. Cleaning products made without harmful chemicals
6. Reducing paper waste
7. Hang your clothes to dry
8. Limit usage of toilet paper
9. Try not to make more food than you will eat
10. Energy efficient light bulbs
11. Think about your carbon footprint
These methods are obvious on paper but surprisingly enough are difficult to implement in everyday life. However, being conscious about utility usage can significantly lower monthly costs and benefit the environment by conserving energy and resources (duh). It just takes a bit more effort!
Implementing weekly cleaning routines (and sticking to them) can help balance daily attention spans and maintain a healthy living environment. Of course, doing this while attempting to be more conscious can be a task in itself. Purchasing cleaning products that do not use harmful chemicals or are unethically produced can cost a bit more, but will benefit all areas of concern in a conscious consumer’s goals. Check out The Honest Company for products that will help any conscious consumer be more ethical with their purchasing.
