For some reason one day, I had a strange urge to watch Disney Pixar's film A Bug's Life. I thought to myself, "What a better way to spend a Friday night by going back to your childhood and watching the way the insects of our planet survive!" While I was watching the film, a random thought came crashing into my head!
A Bug's Life
This thought came out of the blue, and it was like this, "Watching the ants collecting food for the grasshoppers every year is like watching the first half of Season 7 of The Walking Dead all over again"! Basically if you haven't watched A Bug's Life yet (I mean you should have at this point), this film is about how a group of ants have to scurry to collect food for the grasshoppers before it is too late. However for the young ant inventor Flik, he does not want to give in to the grasshoppers' demands, so he decides to recruit a group of "warrior" insects to rid of those group of bullies!
Onto The Walking Dead!
Now that reciting the plot of A Bug's Life is out of the way, I would like to talk about what is going on in The Walking Dead this season. After last season when Rick and his group had encountered the Saviors' and their fearful leader Negan, the bat wielding leader had told the frightened group that things were going to be different now. The basic new world order is this: whatever supplies that you have, you give half of them to us. In other words, you serve us now.
Also to make matters worse, Negan goes off and bludgeons two of our fan favorites (Glenn and Abraham) to death with his barbed wire bat, Lucille. In order to prevent any more deaths happening in Rick's group, they had to serve the Saviors, which was not a good time during the first half of the season. However, these Saviors were getting out of hand treating everybody like dirt, so Rick and his group decide to fight the Saviors. This is where the connection to A Bug's Life comes in, these two different characters from the film and the television want to fight, but there are communities that do not want to engage in these similar situations.
However in A Bug's Life, the colony of ants have realized that they have the potential to outnumber the grasshoppers a hundred to one, so even though that they are small in individual size, they are able to counter back at the grasshoppers combined! For the people in The Walking Dead, various communities (Alexandria, Hilltop, The Kingdom, etc.) don't know this yet, but if they are convinced to join with Rick, then they can take out the Saviors. This is the special connection that I made with A Bug's Life and The Walking Dead over the weekend. If you have any comments that you like to share, let me know!
