So, a lot of people heard that "Deadpool" got snubbed by the Oscars, which means that they did not get any nominations despite its critical acclaim and accolades. Now, is this unfair? I wouldn't say so, especially since the Academy typically doesn't review action or comic book-based movies. It's more something you expect.
However, that doesn't detract from the fact that "Deadpool" set the standard for action movies or comedies that can break boundaries. What really distinguished "Deadpool" from the rest was how different it was.
Like other comic book adaptations, its popularity started with the fanbase and the marketing of the movies eventually attracted a general audience. "Deadpool," on the other hand, had wit, strong satire, great actions scenes, really smart marketing, and Reynold's amazing performance tied this movie into one great bow.
It set the standard for modern day superhero movies to be Impactful with authentic action sequences and stellar performances and great contributions from the production side of things. "Deadpool" lies in a slightly different realm (comedy), as opposed to the nitty-gritty of "X-Men," so that's how it can differ as well. Considering that comic book movies will be around for a long time, "Deadpool" is a good refresher.
But, let's think about it this way. Reynolds wasn't upset that he got snubbed. He recommended that the Academy Awards introduce a comedy category to recognize the hard work that goes into it. Who knows? We might even get an action category.
