10 Reasons You Should Start Complimenting Yourself

Once in awhile, I will look in a mirror and tell myself, “I look good.” Many people think I am being conceited, but I am not a conceited person. See, there is a difference between telling someone you look pretty and telling yourself in a mirror you look pretty. I believe that the only way to feel confident in your own skin is by complimenting yourself once in awhile. Everyone needs to learn to love and appreciate the skin they are living in. The more you start looking in the mirror and smile at the person you see, the happier you will become.

So, on a night where you are all dressed up or even on a night where you are in sweatpants and a hoodie, remember to tell yourself you look beautiful. The more you start telling yourself you are beautiful on the inside and outside the more you will begin to believe in yourself. My family laughs at me every time I make a comment to myself, but it honestly just makes me feel better about the person I am. You do not need to be the best looking or the skinniest person, you just need to be confident. Once I started accepting my physical attributes, I gained a lot more confidence. It is amazing when someone compliments you, yes, but you cannot always count on someone else for your happiness. So, why not start telling yourself how awesome you are? Here are a few reasons why you should begin to compliment yourself:

1. Once you begin to compliment yourself, you will also begin to smile more.

2. Then you will start to embrace the person you are.

3. Which will improve your own attitude.

4. Then over time, you will begin to feel mentally healthy.

5. Which will make you a better person to be around.

6. So as you begin to smile more, people will also begin to cherish your presence more.

7. And as people see the happiness that shines from your confidence, they will begin to see the true beauty you hold.

8. Most importantly, once you start to love yourself, others will begin to love you just as much or even more.

9. So do not be afraid and take the first step by telling yourself you are beautiful.

10. Day by day you will finally learn to appreciate the princess or prince you truly are.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
