What is self-confidence? It is defined as "confidence in oneself and in one's powers and abilities".
Something I have always known is that I do not have a lot of self-confidence, and I feel that a lot of the world doesn't always feel the best about themselves. We all think of things that could change about ourselves, whether it be height, weight, or nose but most of the time we don't have the confidence to just learn and accept the lifestyles that we already possess.
For some back story, I am a first-year resident assistant at my university and some of the graduate students planned some potential programs to have for our residents throughout the year. I attended the program entitled "You, Me, and Beyonce." Our first task was to write anything that we did not like about ourselves (I wrote glasses, nose, weight, etc), but then we were instructed to crumple that paper up and throw it on the ground and verbally say "these things DO NOT define me." We then got a piece of construction paper and wrote our name in the middle of the page and were told that we were going to pass the paper around the table of about fifteen other RAs to write something that we liked about that person. After doing so, we were given our construction paper back and could read what everyone said about us.
Someone wrote on my page,
"Your confidence inspires me, and it's always an interesting time. Congrats man... live your life."
Like I said before, I don't find myself to be that confident... but someone does, someone finds that the confidence that I "have" inspires them. But I didn't think that I had any? This week has taught me that we should all be more confident, we should all strive to have that confidence to inspire someone else. This makes me beyond happy to think that someone saw something in myself that I did not think that I possessed. Just this person telling me this through a piece of paper that my confidence inspires them inspires me. It inspires me to make a change, and as the note said, "live my life."
