Hands down the best decision I made my freshman year of college was starting "Grey's Anatomy" at 10 p.m. on a lonely Friday night and finishing season one at 1 a.m. that night. I remember telling my boyfriend that I was going to start Grey's; he said "no, you're not going to become one of those basic girls who obsesses over Grey's so much that you think you're a doctor." Well here we are, three months and 12 seasons later, and I'm completely addicted. I've become a junkie; binge-watching has become my summer obsession. I am counting down the days until season 13 airs so I can kick off the weekends with Grey's.
Grey's is so much more than just a television series. It covers every possible adversity one can face in life: sexuality, addictions, faithful relationships, and of course, death. Surely there are many of unexpected plot twists that leave fans emotionally unstable for days to follow, but those of us who have been through it all keep coming back.
Becoming addicted to "Grey's Anatomy" is probably one of the best things I've done in a long time. After watching from season one episode one to now, I feel so connected to each of the remaining characters. When Meredith inevitably cries in almost every episode, you want to cry with her, cry for her. I mean after everything she's been through how could you not? The poor girl, her persistence inspires me, as I'm sure it does many other fans. I often times find myself saying "if Meredith Grey can survive Derek's death, you can do this."
"Grey's Anatomy" is so much more than a medical show. It's so much more than a long running TV series. It takes a crazy creative mind, Shonda Rhimes, to create such a well-received, loved series. Being a part of Shondaland is a complex thing, you never know what to expect. But you're guaranteed an interesting journey in each and every episode; whether it's the death of a beloved character, the arrival of new doctors, a new hospital name, an insane crisis, or relationship drama, there's never a dull moment.
