Confessions of a Gay Man
Derek Smith

I know. The title is so unappealing. However, after talking to people. I feel like I personally need to get some things off my chest. Below is a list of all the things I need to confess.

  • I hate hate hate hate hate the fact that I can be fired because of my sexuality.
  • I feel like myself and anyone who is like me is not accepted in my hometown. It is hard to call it home, when you feel pushed out.
  • College has given me the strength to stand up for what I believe in.
  • I have a lot of fake friends. Not people who are fake. People I allow to believe we are friends. However, I can’t stand them.
  • My brain is theatrical. I imagine myself as characters and wish I was them such as, Regina (Evil Queen), Blaine Anderson, Beyoncé, and Christina Aguilera.
  • I don’t have many male role models. I look up to strong independent women because I still have male trust issues.
  • I love villains so much more than good guys.
  • I hate the fact that I can’t wear what I want without backlash.
  • I wish I could be shown that love really does exist. I’m starting to believe it’s a sham.
  • I hate I can’t sing the songs that I love to listen to because I am a bass and they are all Soprano 1 or 2.
  • I wish I could be in more musicals that I liked like Rocky Horror Picture Show,
  • I wish more people like Joan Rivers existed, it made the world understand how awful and stupid it was.
  • I wish we could all take our religions and races and just get over ourselves and move on. We are all human.
  • I wish college was free. Knowledge shouldn’t cost so much.
  • I wish the music field was more appreciated.
  • I wish Donald Trump would concede.
  • I hate that the arts are under-appreciated by the general public in public schools.
  • I hate people who push their beliefs on others.
  • I hate that people feel the need to kill people to “fix” their causes. Why can’t we just be civil and diplomatic.
  • I hate that people are so petty that Congress can’t even appoint a new justice.
  • I hate how Mike Pence has basically stripped the power from Glinda Ritz because he knows she is right.
  • One Direction sounds better broken up.
  • Beyoncé is my spirit animal.
  • My attitude is an outward façade. I care about things more than I put off.
  • I hate unresolved conflict.
  • I love murder mysteries because I like to learn about the killers and their thinking.
  • Once Upon A Time is my favorite show, just because it makes you feel like you could live there.
  • My male crush is Colton Haynes. I mean look at him. If we met, I'd collapse.
  • I have thought about drag. I just like the outrageous outfits.
  • I love old Disney movies.
  • Melissa McCarthy is bae.
  • I have a sharp tongue like Madea.
  • I have a fear of driving. More like a fear of endangering others.
  • I feel like I am under-appreciated a lot.
  • Ignorant Rednecks annoy me to no end. “Do you all sell deer meat?” Do you have a brain you dumb, white trash, single brain celled baboon?
  • I don’t do well with “Grace in the face of Ignorance”.
  • I wish the world was more colorful. Grey is boring and gross.
  • Fast food workers are super under-appreciated.
  • I hate drugs, alcohol, super out of control parties, or any other destructive decision you can think of.
  • #ImWithHer til the end.
  • I considered being a dancer at Connections before.
  • I’ve been silent during discussions that I know if I talked would have upset some people.
  • Guys are so stupid. I hate dating at my age. It never works.
  • I wish my close friends would never leave me. They are so special to me.
  • Socks and Sandals = Trash. FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO WEAR!
  • Mykul Jay Valentine was my first male performer crush.
  • Nicole Jackson Valentino will forever be my first drag friend. My dancing diva! <3 Then Tori Sass ;)
  • Jordin Sparks’ “Battlefield” is my guilty pleasure aside from “Crazy in Love”.
  • I feel like my fraternity was wrongfully shut down.
  • I want to play Frank N. Furter in Rocky Horror!
  • I hate playing Piano. Love listening to it, love singing with it, hate playing it.
  • I’m a Democratic Socialist, who also likes the idea of communism.
  • I love being the “bad countries” during Model UN. I love raining of people’s parades.
  • I wanted to be a cheerleader when I was younger.
  • I hate the color yellow on anybody. It looks gross. Wear orange or purple instead.
  • Never watched Harry Potter all the way through. I fall asleep. Same with Lord of the Rings. #Bored
  • I wish more people like Ellen DeGeneres existed. Be kind to one another.
  • Twilight was stupid. We all know a human would be dead if they messed with a werewolf or vampire. Stop living out a fantasy Stephanie Myers.
  • Snoop Dog reminds me of a grandpa on drugs.
  • Lady Gaga is better than Madonna.
  • Jane Lynch as Sue told us exactly what we were thinking, but were too afraid to say.
  • Clingy and protective is attractive in a person.
  • The fact I don’t have an actual bed at home kind of depresses me.
  • “The Devil Wears Prada” was my dream scenario when I was a kid. Own a fashion company, be famous, have assistants, etc.
  • President Obama is cooler than people give him credit for.
  • I feel like there are more people that let me down every day than keep their word.
  • I feel like keeping a child’s love is more than just showing up once every 27th event.
  • If people really cared about family, we would all be together more than just 3 holidays.
  • Money and property does not make you more important to a family than anyone else. It makes you a jerk if you flaunt it and oppress others from the same.
  • I had a crush on my old young guard instructor.
  • I hate being told what to read. I understand and learn more when I read freely and read about what I want to read about.
  • Meditation has done wonders for me.
  • I feel like if you care about something truly, you will continuously go back for it.
  • I feel like the ego far outweighs the talent of some athletes I know.
  • I will gladly smile to your face and internally rip your heart out, if I truly don’t like you.
  • I feel like my kindness and willingness to help is taken advantage of.
  • I feel like there are people meant to speak who don’t and people who speak who shouldn’t.
  • I feel like hard work does not always pay off.
  • I have learned not to get too attached to anything because it can leave just as fast as you found it.
  • I feel like people sometimes place too high of goals on others.

The first two weeks of classes have come to an end and they have been anything BUT easy. It seems like life has been serving up more bad than good and in all honesty, the only thing you want to do is crawl under your covers and hide from the rest of the world.

Although this seems like the best solution, it is also the easy way out. Take it from the girl who took basically a whole week off from her life because she just could not handle everything that was being thrown at her. This caused her to feel extremely lonely and even more stressed out for being behind in classes that JUST began.

"What's more important? What we become or how we become it?"

Brooke Davis

"She was fiercely independent, Brooke Davis. Brilliant, and beautiful, and brave. In two years she had grown more than anyone I had ever known. Brooke Davis is going to change the world someday, and I'm not sure she even knows it." - Lucas Scott, An Unkindness of Ravens

Brooke Davis of the hit show One Tree Hill was the it girl - she had it all, or so we thought. She started out as a stuck-up, shallow, spoiled, head cheerleader who didn't have her life together. She slept around a lot and loved to party - sounds like your typical high school teenager right? Wrong. B. Davis had so much more to offer. Caring, loyal, and outspoken, she has taught us some valuable lessons throughout the 9 seasons that OTH was on the air:
